Curriculum

Our goals are attainable! At ALS, we prepare students for university life. The educational facilities offered at our school ensure quality education in a positive environment. We teach good citizenship to help strengthen the student's identity and ability to actively and positively participate in society. High standards of morality are stressed. We constantly research new methods and resources in technology to assist in the development of quality, internationally recognized education.

A broad range of activities are introduced to promote written and oral communication skills, in both Arabic and English language. Throughout the year, students participate in research tasks, presentations, field trips, reading, spelling and writing competitions. Supplementary to the core curriculum is a rich array of options offered to students ranging from KG onwards. These courses include but are not limited to computers, health, art, music, drama and physical education. These classes are instructed by certified staff and are situated in rooms/labs tailored to the subject, insuring optimal instruction. These classes are essential in the enrichment and broadening of students' self-confidence and creativity.

In an orderly, safe environment, students learn to develop skills and attitudes which building a vital foundation for their future. A happy, secure atmosphere is created to build confidence and self esteem. The philosophy of ALS emphasizes on the importance of the student as an individual, thus adequate attention and detailed evaluation is provided through continuous assessment and reporting.

Children are assisted by their teachers to form healthy and productive work habits, ranging from organization to establishing regular study habits and homework routines. In earlier grades these tasks will be minimal but regular. This process lays the foundation of good work habits which will prove useful with the increase of academic demands

The combination of these distinctive curricula provides a comprehensive program of study which aims to equip every student with the essential skills for lifelong learning and meet individual learning needs. ALS encourages independence and self-discipline in an atmosphere of mutual respect and appreciation of diverse opinions and cultures. ALS's curriculum determines the precise content that will be taught and provides targets for student learning, including how that performance will be assessed and reported. The school's program gives teachers, students and parents a clear and shared understanding of the knowledge, skills and understanding that children will gain at school.

Kindergarten Stage
Our curriculum is based on the Montessori method.
The Montessori learning is much different than the traditional model; instead of information passing from the teacher to the student, the teacher is skilled in keeping the child in touch with the environment and helping him to learn to make intelligent choices and to carry out research in a prepared environment forming a triangle: the student, the parent or the teacher, and the environment.

- This method is applied for young students from (2-6) years.

    Our goals are:

  • Foster a sense of self confidence and well being in each child.
  • Develop interest in a variety of different subjects i.e. Reading, Math, Science, Arabic, Quran, Social skills and Art
  • Provide physical activities to facilitate gross and fine motor development to develop in students and parents a positive attitude towards self, others, school and learning
  • Provide a safe and loving environment for all students.

Primary Stage

The Primary Curriculum provides the framework for educating students in Primary 4 to 6. The program is a cross-curricular, rigorous teaching program that integrates history, geography, science, art, music, physical education, information communication technology and design technology into thematic units and provides links to English and Mathematics. Students spend three to six weeks on Units of Work which are based around interdisciplinary themes of real interest to children so they are engaged and enthusiastic. The period of study allows students to approach topics from multiple perspectives and to make connections between subjects. Focusing on three standards – academic, personal development and international mindedness – the program provides a creative system that prepares children, wherever they may live in the future, for the world of tomorrow.

The program's approach to learning is a clear progression in skill development. This even applies to the personal learning goals which emphasize adaptability, resilience, thoughtfulness, cooperation and respect and which, as a result of progressive skill development, help children to become able, confident and inspired learners. This program is to ensure that ALS students grow up with a very clear global understanding. The program provides a well-defined framework which sets standards that measure how children are performing in each subject, helping teachers ensure high overall student performance.

    ALS's belief is that:

  • Children need a holistic educational experience that doesn't create artificial boundaries between different aspects of their development.
  • Entertainment is an essential part of students learning and general development.

The activities undertaken by students help them work towards the subject, personal goals of the Program which is undertaken in the primary school. The Early Years Program offers the Learning Strands, outlining the four key areas of learning - Independence and Interdependence, Communicating, Exploring and Healthy Living.

Preparatory Stage:
Students at this stage have specialized teachers for all subjects, as they begin the transition from preparatory to high school. The National Curriculum is a comprehensive course of study that includes different subjects: English, mathematics, science, history, geography, modern foreign languages, information communication technology, art and design, music, and physical education.
